Summer Reading Club

Registrations are now open for our Summer Reading Club. Please come in and register and collect your starter bag from any branch of Campbelltown City Library.

The Summer Reading Club is run every Summer in libraries throughout Australia. The Club is designed to encourage reading and to introduce children and young people to other services in the library.

The theme for this year is Untangled Tales.We hope that as you Untangle some Tales these holidays you will embark on a journey into the magical world of books.

Our final Craftalicious Artinoon for 2012 is next Tuesday. This afternoon is exclusively for Bookalicious members.

Summer Reading Club

Are you wondering what to do in the summer school holidays?

Campbelltown City Library is pleased to announce that the Summer Reading Club will once again be taking place throughout the Summer holidays. We would like to invite children and families to come in and join the Summer Reading Club.

This year, we are joining more than 1100 libraries across Australia in hosting the Summer Reading Club.

The Summer Reading Club is a free school holiday program with activities designed especially for children from birth up to 16 years old, as well as their families and friends.

This year the theme is Untangled Tales, with a focus on fairy tales and folklore stories from around the world.

The Summer Reading Club is run through the interactive website http://www.summerreadingclub.org.au/ as well as exciting activities and events held here at Campbelltown City Library.

To join this year's Summer Reading Club and receive your free starter pack, register at any branch at Campbelltown City Library from 3 December, or phone 4645 4444 for more information.

Children's Book Week Lucky Draw Prize Winners

We received 436 entries for the Children's Book Week Lucky Draw Prize competition. Thank you to everyone who entered.

We are happy to announce that we have 5 winners from our lucky draw. 4 year old Finn from Leumeah, 8 year old Jeslyn from Bow Bowing, 9 year old Imritjit from Ingleburn, 8 year old Anfernee from St Andrews and 11 year old Madison from Macquarie Fields have all won a special prize - Congratulations! 

Children's Book Week

We hope that you are all enjoying Children's Book Week. If you haven't already visited us this week why not pop into your local library and see our special displays and enter our Champions Read Lucky Draw Prize.  All you have to do is borrow any two junior or young adult books.  Entries for this competition close tomorrow night!


The Children's Book Week books are very popular at the moment and you may not find them on the shelves. Please ask our friendly staff for help, we are more than happy to put a reserve on any book you want.

Children's Book Week

We hope that you all enjoy Children's Book Week. Why not pop in to your local library this week and see what is going on.  We have a few special after school activities happening over the next week as well as some special displays and our Champions Read Lucky Draw Prize.

On Wednesday afternoon 22 August at HJ Daley Library from 4pm - 5pm we are hosting a Craftalicious Artinoon for our Bookalicious members. All Bookalicious members are welcome to attend this special craft activity. For more information phone 4645 4444.

Thursday 23 August at Minto Community Library we will be hosting a PJ Storytime.  Why not call in at 6pm in your pyjamas with your teddy bear for some special stories, craft and a special pre-bedtime snack.  For more information phone 4645 4125.

Friday 24 August at Greg Percival Library at 4pm with our friends from Kumon we will be taking part in the Reading Hour.  Why not join us with your family and celebrate the joy of reading.  This is a chance for you and your family to hear special guests read aloud and learn more about reading. Saturday 25 August at 10.30am Glenquarie Library will be hosting a Saturday storytime.  Why not come and join us for a special storytime for the whole family.  For more information phone 4645 4055.

We also have a special competition running for the next week.  For every two junior or young adult books you borrow during Children's Book Week you get an entry into our Champions Read Lucky Draw Prize.  There will be a winner from every branch, so remember your entry when you come in to borrow.  Entries open 18 August and close 24 August. All winners will be notified on 31 August.

National Simultaneous Storytime

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday 23 May 2012 at 11:00am come and join us for National Simultaneous Storytime. Campbelltown City Library will joining organisations Australia wide, reading the picture book The Very Cranky Bear to more than 170,000 children across Australia.


The Very Cranky Bear is written by Nick Bland. It is a wonderful Australian book about friendship, sacrifice and learning that appearances aren't important. Four friends who encounter a cranky bear, Moose, Lion and Zebra all think they know how to cheer him up. But it is plain, boring Sheep who has the answer.

In the Jingle Jangle Jungle on a wet and windy day, four little friends meet A VERY CRANKY BEAR. Can they cheer him up? Come and join us and find out!

What is Bookalicious?

Bookalicious is a reading club for children between the ages five and twelve.

On joining the club, members will receive a special library card, a badge and a reading log. It is simple each time you read a book write the details into the reading log and get your parent or carer to sign it as well. Every time you finish ten books bring your reading log to the library to collect your next reward.

Children between the ages of five and eight can include books that are read to them. For children who have difficulty reading normal print they can listen to audio books, read large print or have books to them.

If you are taking part in the the Premier's Reading Challenge at your school you can also record the books you read in your Bookalicious reading log.

As a member of Bookalicious you will also receive invites to special Bookalicious only events and our special Bookalicious Newsletter.

Summer Reading Club

Thank you everyone who participated in our first Summer Reading Club. We were very excited to have 361 children register over the school holidays. The Summer Reading Club concluded last week with our Amazing Afternoon and announcement of prize winners. We hope you all enjoyed your summer reading and hope that it is the start of a wonderful year of reading.
