Happy Children's Book Week everyone!

We are celebrating Children's Book Week with a variety of activities throughout the week.

Why not pop in to your local library this week and see what is going on.

For the babies we have a special Baby Read 'n' Rhyme session at HJ Daley Library on Monday 22 August from 10.30am to 11am.

We also have special storytimes in our regular time slots and displays in all branches of the library as well as our lucky draw prize.

There will also be a special PJ Storytime celebrating Children's Book Week at Glenquarie Library on Thursday 25 August starting at 6pm.

For any child or young adult who borrows with their library card at any branch of the library from Friday 21 August to Friday 28 August can enter our lucky draw prize. There will be two winners from every branch. Entries open today and close 26 August. All winners will be notified on Friday 2 September.

All you have to do is borrow any junior or young adult book with your library card. Entries for this competition close tomorrow night!

Summer Reading Club

Campbelltown City Library is pleased to announce that the Summer Reading Club will once again be taking place throughout December and January. We are inviting children and their families to come in and join in the fun. The Summer Reading Club is open to young people up to 16 years of age.

The holidays are all about fun and adventure, and this year’s Summer Reading Club is aimed at encouraging children to find both – in the pages of books. This year’s ‘Adventure’ theme will see children choose their own adventure as they explore the library shelves.

Registrations will open on Monday 1 December.  You can visit any Campbelltown City Library branch to register and all participants will receive a Summer Reading Club starter bag and a prize from our lucky dip. Registrations are also available online through the Summer Reading Club interactive website http://www.summerreadingclub.org.au/

Read as much as you can and return your reading logs to any Campbelltown City Library branch to go in to the draw as there are some great prizes on offer.

Reading for the Summer Reading Club will end on Sunday 18 January. To celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Club we will be hosting parties at all Campbelltown City Library branches on Thursday 22 January so look out for your invitation in the mail!

Storytime Sessions 9 to 12 September

Curl up for storytime at any of our library branches from 9 to 12 September, and you’ll be learning about threatened species and what can be done to help protect them. The specially-themed sessions are being held in celebration of Threatened Species Day on 7 September, and will include a book and craft activities. You can also check out a display of entries in this year’s Threatened Species Art Competition at HJ Daley Library and Eagle Vale Central Library until 11 September.

Free Comic Book Day

Worldwide Free Comic Book Day will arrive at HJ Daley Library on Saturday 4 May from 10am to 3pm.

This year there will be free comic book give-aways, activities, displays and competitions.

Dress-up as your favourite comic book character on the day and you'll have a chance to win a fantastic prize!

Children's Book Week

We hope that you all enjoy Children's Book Week. Why not pop in to your local library this week and see what is going on.  We have a few special after school activities happening over the next week as well as some special displays and our Champions Read Lucky Draw Prize.

On Wednesday afternoon 22 August at HJ Daley Library from 4pm - 5pm we are hosting a Craftalicious Artinoon for our Bookalicious members. All Bookalicious members are welcome to attend this special craft activity. For more information phone 4645 4444.

Thursday 23 August at Minto Community Library we will be hosting a PJ Storytime.  Why not call in at 6pm in your pyjamas with your teddy bear for some special stories, craft and a special pre-bedtime snack.  For more information phone 4645 4125.

Friday 24 August at Greg Percival Library at 4pm with our friends from Kumon we will be taking part in the Reading Hour.  Why not join us with your family and celebrate the joy of reading.  This is a chance for you and your family to hear special guests read aloud and learn more about reading. We will also have many popular books from the library's collection available for families to share together on the day, you might even like to borrow some.  For more information about this event please phone 4645 4060.

Saturday 25 August at 10.30am Glenquarie Library will be hosting a Saturday storytime.  Why not come and join us for a special storytime for the whole family.  For more information phone 4645 4055.

We also have a special competition running for the next week.  For every two junior or young adult books you borrow during Children's Book Week you get an entry into our Champions Read Lucky Draw Prize.  There will be a winner from every branch, so remember your entry when you come in to borrow.  Entries open 18 August and close 24 August. All winners will be notified on 31 August.

Craft Naming Competition

We received a lot of wonderful entries for the Bookalicious craft afternoon naming competition but, in the end, there could be only one winner! All the librarians were asked to vote for their favourite name.

It was a very close competition and I am happy to announce that the winning name was Craftalicious Artinoon! Well done to Alexandra who came up with this very clever name! Alexandra received a Bookalicious backpack and a $30 gift voucher for Borders.
